It's a long and boring story..
We were developing enterprise software for various companies. In our journey, we hit upon this unique opportunity while working for a large (regional) real-estate firm. They wanted to auto-generate videos for their luxury listings. So, we went looking for an API that would handle this workload. Contacted the leading company (Animoto) and were given a bid for $500k to get started.
Armed with the double barrel of Naivete and Hubris, we coded something in a few days that could create videos from images. Proud of ourselves, we registered this domain and name (Go Reelo!). This was scoped to be specifically for Real Estate market with quick API hooks. We forgot one key factor. How do we sell this thing to customers? We quickly realized that our heart wasn't in it. We didn't love real-estate. We loved tech, we were also an MSP. We were nerds.
So, we packed our trusty weapon and decided we would only do what we loved. Focusing our energy on things we love was way more rewarding. It's that feedback loop that really helped us through the tough times of continually building a product, without caring much about silly things like revenue and market share 🙂
Instead of coming up with another snazzy name, we just used our previous name and went with it.
